Game Pass Savior – Frog Detective: The Entire Mystery

I bought an Xbox a long time ago. It wasn’t until recently that I gave up on Game Pass’s library of games because I just did not want to play any of the games. None of them really appealed to me. I played through what I wanted and was left with a paperweight. That was until I saw that Frog Detective was released on the PC Game Pass, so I will talk about that absolute gem of a video game this week.

Frog Detective is an adventure game from Grace Bruxner and Thomas Bowker and published by Worm Club and Superhot Presents. The trilogy released in October of 2022 for everything Microsoft and retails for $15.

You take the role of THE FROG DETECTIVE, a simple frog with the aim of being the #1 detective. Lobster Cop holds the spot and the trilogy follows the rise to greatness. Each mystery has its own unique location, a unique story that is filled with suspense, comedy, and tragedy that wraps the overarching story In a nice bow until the very end.

The Gameplay consists of your typical investigating: interrogating perps, finding evidence, being extorted, locating lost items, etc. Each of the three games involves a lot of talking to the townsfolk, getting the things they want in exchange for information until you solve the “mystery,” which most of the time is just a simple misunderstanding, only because crime is not real.

The most enjoyable aspect of the gameplay is the conversations between Frog Detective and the suspects. They are condescending, often interrupting and belittling Frog Detective, but the comedy they provide is unmeasurable. Every conservation is a random series of nonsensical thoughts that somehow combine into a cohesive conversation between two anthropomorphic characters.

Each of the three games has its own appeal, but in the end, all look beautiful especially the final game. Everything is sleek, colorful, and a joy to be a part of. Even the design of Frog Detective, who cannot wear hats, is a joy to behold because it is referenced in every game up until the very end.

The music fits the themes of each game perfectly. Each game has a theme, whether it be an island, a spooky forest, or a town full of cowboys, each game has a really well-orchestrated theme to go along with it.

Frog Detective is a gem of a video game. I played the game with my wife sitting beside me, and it was an absolute blast. Each of us read conversations and laughed because of how hilarious they were. Even though the game repeated the same formula of gathering goods for specific people to achieve the end, it was always fun to walk around each town, talk to everyone and finish the investigation.

Frog Detective is fun for anyone. It has top-notch humor coupled with fun investigation gameplay making Frog Detective maybe the only must-play for Game Pass on PC.
