I have had some wrist pain this week, so I played a short spooky game about aliens, UFOs, and abductions. This week is Incident at Grove Lake.

Incident at Grove Lake is a PSX-style horror game from ToothandClaw. The game was published in June 2023 for the PC and retails for any price.

I am pretty sure that the plot to Incident at Grove Lake is that a former employee has entrusted you, a private investigator with documents regarding UFOs, specifically an abduction at Grove Lake.

Gameplay is solely just walking around and interacting with things. The aim of the gameplay is to experience the game. In the beginning, shadowy figures watch you as the former employee entrusts you with these documents. As you go back to review the footage, you witness that the government has been hiding much more than just aliens at Area 51. Aliens are brutal and they are out for blood.

You already know ToothandCkaw nailed the PSX look and sound. I think that the PSX horror genre is some of the scariest shit on the planet. Walking through the forest to Grove Lake is nothing short of terrifying.

Incident at Grove Lake is a weird video game. I remember seeing it on Itch.io and being really excited to play. I’m never really happy to play a horror game because I’m old and my heart can’t take all the spookiness. Incident at Grove Lake has tension, atmosphere, and spookiness. Its gameplay is lacking but don’t pass up this 25-minute horror experience.
