Demo Days – Sniper Killer

Reader, Steam Nextfest is the best thing on the planet, because you have Puppet Combo hyping up other PsX horror games, and you can PLAY them. This week is a demo about a guy who kills people with a sniper; this week is Sniper Killer.

Sniper Killer is a PsX horror game from Black Eyed Priest, Henry Hoare, published by Torture Star Video. The game will release for the PC sometime in 2023.

You take the role of a man who is out for blood, the sniper killer, as you follow him on his murder escapade. This murder spree is only capable if you stay ahead of a detective that is hell-bent on catching you.

The gameplay is pretty straightforward, you are told where to go to claim your next victim, check the marks, murder the person, and move on to the next one. The demo offers a really nice introduction to the gameplay as you are instructed by a voice to go to a carnival, ride the Ferris wheel and shoot a guy in his face. The latter half of the demo follows a reporter in her attempts to nab the culprit. The rush of killing someone on a Ferris wheel to then running from the same person in a tense subway chase scene is thrilling, to say the least.

Sniper Killer and every single PsX-style game look like hot garbage. I’ll admit it, it’s fine, really. What the graphics lack makes up in the atmosphere, though the voice acting is really bad too. I still enjoy it. PsX games really nail the shitty lighting and the gore. The city section at night is terrifying.

Sniper Killer is a game that I snap wishlist. I honestly hate horror games but there is something about these styles of games that makes me want more. Bloodwash, Powerdrill Massacre, and That Which Gave Chase all create an atmosphere that is completely addicting. I really like the 80s horror movie vibe that the game gives off too, it just feels right.

Sniper Killer’s demo was exciting, fun, and scary, especially at the end.
