Demo Days – Wizard With A Gun

The Steam Summer Sale has come and gone yet again and I found out that I accidentally purchased Rogue Legacy 2. I am really excited about the other games that I bought but this week is all about Devolver Digital. I fall in and out of following Devovler because they just do whatever they please and other times they release an excellent game, but during Steam Nextfest they released the Wizard With A Gun demo. Without further adieu, this week I talk about Wizard With A Gun.

Wizard With A Gun is an action rogue-like from Galvanic Games and is being published by Devolver Digital. The game will be released for the Xbox (both series), PS5, and PC and is slated to release sometime in 2023.

From what I gauged from a cut scene and a few conversations with NPCs, is that a portal opened, a huge monster and its minions are destroying all life and the only way to stop it is by reversing time with an ancient artifact. This ancient artifact needs to be fixed so venturing out into the unknown in search of gears to fix the clock is prime concern. Fix the clock, stop the end of the world.

Wizard With A Gun prides itself on being an open-world multiplayer game. The main aim of the game is to venture out, loot, do quests, and collect the necessary items to turn back time. All of this can be done with the help of friends and I gotta say it is pretty fun to save the world together as opposed to alone.

The onboarding for the game was managed pretty well: You have a world-destroying monster, This is how you craft a gun, now go out and search for cogs to turn back time and save the world. To do all of these things you will need to have a home base where you can upgrade gear and magic. Upgrades take resources found in the world while adventuring.

While adventuring, the player will find that enemies litter the map, and they hit kind of hard. Potions can be crafted to maintain a proper level of healing, The world is filled with things to loot and shoot. Combat is pretty straightforward: point the gun at the bad guy and spam dodge roll. It takes some getting used to and will become second nature in no time.

Wizard With A Gun has a charm to it. The isometric camera definitely fits the game and the art style is colorful and cartoony.

Wizard With A Gun was a cool demo, I thought it was fun for about half the demo. The combat did get a little boring as it was just me moving through each section slowly pot-shotting enemies until I got back to the door to bring me home. I think the demo really just wanted to show off the multiplayer aspect because I was having a lot more fun playing with someone than being alone. I hope that the full game will be able to keep my interest because for now there was no real difficulty to be seen.

Watch out for Wizard With A Gun.
