I have been playing Resident Evil 4 Remake for almost two weeks now all because of TerminalMontage’s video. I love this video game and I really want to note all of the things that I loved and still love about the game 18 years later, and the aspects that are still trash.

THE GOOD!

• All of the Capcom remakes of Resident Evil games are fantastic looking and RE4 is nothing short of outstanding looking.
  • I think RE4 looked great back in 2005, but wowzers the revamp takes it to another level. The set pieces like the village in the beginning, the Ashley segment to the Ramon fight later on.
• The RE4 story is complete dog shit but it is some of the most fun in modern video games.
  • You start out at a backwater Spanish village, wander into a fucking castle and somehow end up on a military Island with mini guns and regenerating zombies.
    • Absolutely wild.
• Gunplay is still really good. The ability to move while aiming this time around propels the game into the stratosphere. Leon needed this and they could have released RE4 with 2005 graphics and Leon could move while aiming and I would love it all the same.
  • Guns hit way harder, and all the favorites are back.
    • I don’t remember an assault rifle in 2005, but I sold it back almost immediately for the Broken Butterfly because that gun was and always will be the best weapon.
  • I still like rearranging items in the briefcase, it’s pretty cathartic.
• Leon is still as cheesy as ever. His voice acting is still super serious with that cringe undertone.
• The first regenerator section is terrifying.
  • The second and the third times are still spooky.
• Lots of replayability in the tasks and the amount of usable guns.

THE BAD!

• Ashley is still such a huge pain in the ass. Countless amounts of GAME OVER because Ashley was just existing.
• Mapping the quick turn to the sprint button has gotten me killed so many times. Even the slightest tilt to the analog stick and I dead stop and turn around.
• The cooler section with the regenerating boys was MISERABLE.
• Krauser’s voice actor is poop. He never really sold anything he was spouting.
