Demo Days: Laika: Aged Through Blood

I have too many gameplay videos on this computer and on my external hard drive, so I have been flipping through everything to ensure none were demos I had missed. This week is one of those games. I am sure that it was the most recent Steam Nextfest and I just overlooked it. So this week I ride a sick motorbike and kill bad guys all the while doing flips and shit. This week is Laika: Aged Through Blood.

Laika: Aged Through Blood is an adventure “motorvania” from Brainwash Gang and Thunderful Publishing. The game is set to release for all current-gen consoles and the PC sometime soon.

The player takes the role of a mother coyote, in a post-apocalyptic world, torn between taking vengeance on the tribes that took everything from her and her tribe and rejecting teaching the legacy to the next generation. There is a small settlement in the middle of nowhere that belongs to the tribe. Cramped and running low on supplies, tensions are high as attacks between both tribes are increasing and casualties are increasing. After killing one of their own, both the birds and the mother coyote are out for blood for the transgressions.

The combat takes place solely on the motorcycle. Laika: Aged Through Blood has the gameplay of an ancient flash game but with the added features of immense amounts of blood and gore. You are tasked with keeping the bike upright while jumping off ramps, doing flips, and shooting bad guys. It may seem easy but when introduced with a scenario for the first time, it gets pretty hairy fast. You can brake, change directions, flip to reload, skid to block incoming projectiles, and utilize bullet time to hit those tough shots. Once you get a hang of how the bike functions and how to sway properly then it is all style points from there on out.

Laika: Aged Through Blood is hand drawn. I love hand-drawn worlds and I especially love this one. The demo takes the player to a few locations that really allow the game to shine in the graphics department. I very much enjoyed the tree section.

Laika: Aged Through Blood is a tough choice. In the beginning, I was getting frustrated with the physics of the bike but once I had gotten it down pat, then it was fun until the game kept throwing more and more enemies at me. The tree section specifically has a section where the birds have infiltrated it and you need to escape The first part is to jump from branch to branch killing at least ten enemies to get out. It is very difficult. The story that the demo tells is something that I can get behind. It is a story that immediately got me hooked and I wanted more from this post-apocalyptic world. The game looks great and the music is great too. The demo was a long one, clocking in at around a whole hour, which is insane for a demo. I had a lot of fun with the game and I want more.

I have it wish listed and every time I look at the trailer I am always so pumped for it.
