Spooky Quick Thoughts – Alan Wake 2

I have been playing Alan Wake 2 for at least two weeks now and I feel like I have enough now to talk about all the things I like and dislike about this gem of a video game.

Likes!

  • The overall story is something that I don’t think I’ll understand. It is so far out there that being a part of the ride is just fun.
  • Saga’s campaign is soooooooo good. The Resident Evil vibe that her story gives off is top-tier.
    • I like Alan’s story for how absolutely outrageous it is. You are walking around a spooky, destroyed New York, and then you are in a late-night talk show.
  • The “Herald of Darkness” scene is by far my most favorite moment in a video game. It is an utterly perfect moment for this kind of game.
  • The combat feels like it does what it should be doing and does not really go above and beyond. The flashlight and guns are back and they hit hard just the same.
  • The live-action cutscenes make me smile every single time they come on. It is truly astounding how Remedy was able to go from rendered cutscenes to live action seamlessly.
  • The sound design is still excellent. I remember Alan Wake to be really goofy with the way it mixed horror with the goofy lines that the characters say when approaching you and that still holds true today.

Dislikes!

  • Sometimes the pacing can be a little wonky and can be drawn out a little too long.
  • Enemies take A LOT of bullets.

Alan Wake 2 will be a part of my Game of The Year list. It is a superb video game that has so much love weaved into it. It is genuinely scary that fucks with your head and turns it upside down, and leaves you with more questions.

Alan Wake 2 is a phenomenal game 9/10 EASY.
