Spooky Early Access – Lethal Company

I am here today to say that I have played approximately a single hour of Lethal Company and it is safe to say that I am allowed to talk about this sensation sweeping the internet. So let’s begin.

Lethal Company is a co-op horror game from Zeekerss. The game was released into Steam Early Access at the end of October for the PC and retails for $10.

You are a contracted worker out to collect tons of crap on abandoned moons for an employer to sell back to meet that quota.

THE QUOTA IS EVERYTHING.

Players can use that money to buy a bunch of more crap like cosmetics and more places to explore.

On each moon/planet, there is an area dedicated to exploring. Lethal Company allows up to four friendos to be in a game. These players can go explore, hang out, and watch the computers for movement on the ship or just be fodder for the monsters that dwell in the dark. As you explore each area there are items to loot to cash in on, but be mindful of the weight of these objects because they do slow you down. If you are fortunate enough to make it out alive then you can sell those items to meet that quota. After three days of looting and running for your life, if you met the quota then you get to do more looting.

Rinse and Repeat…. Forever

at the end of each night, there will be a summary of everything that happened during the shift. Penalties for leaving friends’ corpses, who did the most work, and a grade for overall work ethic. It is funny to say the least as you are catching your breath from the spooks and the game is offering you ways to improve your work.

Lethal Company has a certain charm to it. It is incredibly fucking dark and it has Ps2 graphics. Lethal Company can teach a master class on how flashlights should work in video games. The monsters are also pretty scary visually, but the real spookiness comes from the fantastic audio.

The audio design is top-notch, as it amplifies the horror of being alone in the dark. As you navigate poorly lit areas, you are constantly reminded that you are not alone in this loot fest. Friends are talking and their echoes can be barely heard, monsters are scuttling about hitting the metal floors with heaviness making you wonder if they saw you and are sprinting towards you. Every once and a while you will hear the screams of your friends as the life is being drained from them and it is truly scary.

Lethal Company creates an excellent atmosphere shrouded in paranoia.

Lethal Company is an early-access game that knows what it wants to be. So far it is an excellent horror game with solid gameplay mechanics. I think that Lethal Company excels in being a water cooler game. You hang out with some friends, running around a monster-ridden facility frantically trying to collect loot to meet a stupid quota.

Lethal Company is great because it has genuine experiences and you can take those stories and share them with anyone else and they would be just, or more excited to tell you about their experiences playing the game.

Lethal Company, now and when it releases fully, will be an excellent video game.
