Demo Days – Spilled!

Spilled! has been popping up on my Twitter feed for quite some time now. I ignored it thinking that because I already had such a backlog of demos. Well, the thing is, I have been playing quite a lot of Stardew Valley in the past week so I decided to take the plunge, sail a tanker, and clean up the environment in a cozy fashion. This week is the Spilled! Demo!

Spilled! is a cozy game from Lente. Here is the Patreon and the Kickstarter. The game is coming soon.

It is time to clean up waste and use the money to purchase minor upgrades. The mechanics of Spilled! are simple in that WASD positions the boat and the arrow keys make the boat zoom.

The point of the demo was to show off the movement and the collection tutorial. Oil spills litter the area and all you have to do is drive over them to store them in the tank on top of your boat. When full, move on over to the bigger boat to drop off the oil and get paid in coins. You then use those coins for upgrades: Faster movement, a bigger collection tank, and even a larger collector for when you have to collect more garbage.

It is easy to understand and even easier to play. A truly cozy video game.

Spilled! has a cute look to it. It kind of looks like a PS1 game. The area that the demo includes is mountainous with lots of trees and windmills. I always liked the water because there are a bunch of fish and turtles swimming around while you are cleaning up. Very cute.

Spilled! is different than most game demos that I play, with it being NOT a platformer or roguelite. Spilled! is a cozy game that wants you to realize how important the environment is. Clean it up, save some animals, and bask in the rewards. It is just plain fun to sail around, clean up some oil and plastic, get money for upgrades.

Spilled’s demo is a good, cozy taste of what is to come in the future.
