Demo Days – Just Crow Things

I was frantically looking for a game to highlight this week and at the last moment I remembered that the people who made Rain on Your Parade were releasing a game, so I shot over to their Steam page and saw a demo up and was excited. Fly with me this week as I poo on buildings and then light them on fire; this week is Just Crow Things.

Just Crow Things is a cozy adventure game from Unbound Creations. The game will be released for all of the modern consoles. It has no release date or price.

You are a crow… That’s it. There is something about a pair of cool-looking sunglasses passed down from your grandmum and her grandmum’s grandmum and no more than fifteen seconds after receiving the gift a group of edgy cross yoink the glasses because you are not cool enough to wear them.

You gotta show them how cool you are by completing tasks in levels to gain crowputation and show those chumps that you are in fact cool enough.

Just Crow Things starts you out with a streamlined tutorial on how things work in this world. You can fly with the right trigger and glide with the left. Learning to glide properly results in the player being able to traverse the map at lightning speeds. You can poo, either on people or objects. Eating different foods will result in different kinds of poos. Crows are also really smart so they are able to pick stuff up and operate heavy machinery. The onboarding is quick and easy and then plunges you into the actual video game.

There is exactly one level in the demo and I think it gives you a good rundown of all the things you will be looking forward to in the full game when it releases. The player is dropped into a pretty large area and given a bunch of things to do to get that crowputation up. You are tasked with collecting a bunch of random crap: coins, plates, and other treasures to get swag from the rival crows. There are a few silly characters littered throughout the area that give the player jobs to do in exchange for crowputation. Activities like collecting children, glamorizing a home, and tagging mailboxes are all options. Once you’ve collected enough crowputation you can leave the map.

The bottom line is to complete the level but crows are mischievous which means you can go around and cause chaos. Blow torches and leaf blowers are available to make people run in fear of you while pooing on cars resulting in the tires falling off and then rocketing into the sky. It’s all good fun that enables anyone to play.

Just Crow Things is a cute game, it has the same look as Rain on Your Parade.

The sound design so far is okay. The inhabitants of the city act nearly identical to how they did in Rain on Your Parade. When screwing with people they yelp and cover their heads and run away unless it’s a man with a broom who is adamant on hitting you then they grovel with anger.

Just Crow Things maintains the level of cuteness that Rain on Your Parade had. Play the game and in no time you are having fun doing the cute, over-the-top tasks asked of you. You are pooping on people and lighting buildings on fire while collecting stupid little treasures to customize your bird friend. The demo was fun and I was confident that if I gave the controller to my wife she would have been able to play and she did and she had fun.

It’s a fun demo. Go try it.
