Quick Thoughts: R.E.P.O

A friend gifted me a copy of REPO because we have been looking for a game for all our friends to play together when we aren’t feeling up to facing off against the actual Avengers in every FPS we play. I played for about seven hours and I have some things to say about this game.

If you don’t already know REPO is a spooky online co-op game from Semiwork. The game was released for the PC in February and retails for $10.

Positives:

  • It is a really fun game.
    • The movement is perfect.
    • The gameplay loop is so good so far. Even in the alter levels, it is still just as fun.
  • The random generation of levels makes for a fresh, new run every time.
  • The grainy screen adds more fun to gameplay because it makes it hard to discern spooky guys from friends.
  • Everything audio-related is fantastic
  • The Text to Speech is the MVP of the video game.
  • Physics makes everything funnier.
  • the upgrades and stuff to buy feel incredibly impactful
    • probably because you are just a robot with a flashlight.

Negatives:

  • The blind old man is by far the most impressive shot I have ever seen in a video game.
    • Sometimes I won’t make a sound and he knows where I am hiding.
  • Spooky guy’s patterns and AI are incredibly easy to figure out.

REPO is another one of those really fun games that evolved on the formula of the first iteration of the genre. The physics make the game astronomically funnier, the gameplay loop and the random generation of environments make for infinite fun.

It’s a good game and I am excited for future updates.
