Spring semester is coming to a close, and I have made time to play a game that I have been relatively excited about since Sony announced it. I have fond memories of Days Gone, and now that it has been remastered, I want to play it again. It really hurt the game when the PS4 just could not keep up with the horde sections and I felt that the game could look better.
I’ve put about 10 hours into Days Gone Remastered, and I have some things to say about it.

Pros:
- The game looks GREAT. It looked good before, but this remaster has me often sitting on my bike, admiring the environment. The mountain backdrop is so good.
- This extends to the cutscenes, which look phenomenal.
- I have yet to see a slowdown. That is all I ever wanted. Lots and lots of zombies can run at you, and the PS5 doesn’t skip a beat.
- This means to me that these “horde” situations feel way more real and fluid as opposed to their atrocious nature back on the PS4.
- Sound design feels like it got an update, too, though some aspects are still kind of off a little.
- Controls still feel good, except bike combat.

Cons:
- I wish the cover system could have been updated. The “press O” and get into cover just feels dated.
- The crafting UI is still ass. Countless times, I am choosing a Molotov and accidentally move too fast and take out a grenade.
- I don’t know if I am just doing bike combat wrong, but I have to switch all of my fingers to be able to lock-on, drive, and shoot.
* I don’t know where to place the writing. I absolutely cringe at some of the conversations that the characters have, but my wife loves them and thinks they are silly. Maybe I am cringe?
Playing Days Gone on the PS5 is so much fun. My wife is sitting next to me and she is enjoying every moment. From the way the game introduces the characters, and the cringey cutscenes to the serene moments of just driving through the shit. I played and beat Days Gone a handful of times, and I am just so happy that I get to play it, and it runs incredibly well.
I’m not upset that there isn’t a second game, but I am incredibly happy that the remaster did the game such justice. I wouldn’t skip this remaster if you enjoyed the original game.
