I have been a little sick, and I have lost a lot of time playing games that I wanted to play, and ended up playing games that I put on the back burner for this specific purpose. Reignbreaker is a nice Hades-lite that is fun, but it falls a little short.
This week is Reignbreaker.
Reignbreaker is an action Rogue-like from Studio Fizbin and Thunderful Publishing. The game was released in March 2025 and retails for $10.

PROS:
- Reignbreaker looks great. I really like the medieval punk kinda feel.
- Character and enemy designs are just super dope.
- The gameplay loop is just like Hades: beat up baddies, get a boon, fight a boss. Rinse and repeat.
- The Spear is hella fun to use. The various versions provide a nice mix. I really had fun with the spear that shoot a bunch of projectiles to take care of little guys.
- To mitigate the overuse of the spear, Overheating is balanced enough and with the help of boons can allow the player to use it more often.
- The Boons add a significant change to the gameplay with the addition of things like Coat and Bleed. Other boons like damage, speed, and cooldown
- Rogue-like aspects are what you imagine them to be. After collecting a bunch of post-game currency, you can equip medals that boost your next run.
- The Spear is hella fun to use. The various versions provide a nice mix. I really had fun with the spear that shoot a bunch of projectiles to take care of little guys.
- Controls are tight, though sometimes dashing feels awkward.
- $10 is super cheap, especially for a game that has loads of replayability.

CONS:
- The story bored me to tears. There was so much talking that I just wanted to skip it and PLAY THE GAME.
- The dash seems like it just does not work sometimes.
- I’ll be dashing and still get hit mid-dash.
- Enemies get lost in the colors and chaos, leading to losses that feel really bad.
- The voice acting is a little weird and cringe at times.
I think Reignbreaker is a decent Hades-lite. The controls are tight, and the gameplay scratches the itch. I really like the idea Fizbin had for the spear. It makes combat really, really fun. The $10 price tag is definitely a super plus. I don’t really care about the story or the people that inhabit this world.
