Taking it easy this week, and I really wanted to play a platformer. I opened up Epic’s launcher to then open up Itch.io and saw that 3 years ago I bought Celeste and never actually played it.
I did and it is really good.
Let’s Talk
Pros:
- Superb movement. I wanted to go fast, and I got to go fast. BIG FAN OF GOING FAST.
- Superb music. Every section is a bop. Maybe I can pick up the vinyl to just have.
- Superb narrative. I didn’t think that I would care about a precision platformer story, but I was feeling for all of the characters. Depression/anxiety are tough, especially for someone who has had to overcome a few panic attacks in their time.
- The way that these themes are presented, having Madaline come to climb the mountain for the sole purpose of getting away from all the bad things, is relatable.
- The difficulty curve is probably the most perfect that it could be.
- I never really felt like I was at a disadvantage or lost on what to do game-play-wise.

Cons:
- I was using an Xbox controller, and the directional movement was a little bit frustrating at times.
I’ve watched countless speed runs of Celeste and finally decided to pick it up and play it and I am really glad that I did. It is, without a doubt, one of the best precision platformers that I have played in a long time.
