I had an extra hour this week, between reading and doing library work, and so I dedicated it to playing a spooky demo. I had been eyeing a game that scratches the Papers, Please itch, and I am here for it.
This week is Last Report.
Last Report is a spooky game from Monopixel Games. The game was released in July 2025 for the PC and retails for $5.
I’m always a fan of dad games and minor spooky games, and Last Report’s demo mixes the two perfectly. After a nice, long vacation, you, the veteran Park Ranger, have to come back to the night shift at Among Green Trees National Park. John, the head park ranger, welcomes you back and tells you there’s a new guy and the oldest park ranger is walking about the forest again.
The job is easy until it comes for you.
Desk work is never fun, but someone has to do it. There are a lot of incidents at Green Trees National Park regarding drones, illegal activities, and such, and you have to file the reports. Much like Papers, Please, the player has to read the handbook to gain an understanding of how to file reports properly.

Green Trees National Park seems to be one of those parks that barely gets any funding because more often than not, the power goes out. ON TOP OF THAT, IT IS RAINING INCREDIBLY HARD TONIGHT. Water slams against the windows while pixelated trees waft in the dark, making it seem as though someone, or something, is outside.
The only thing you can do is radio out to see if they are okay and continue doing your job as the reports begin to twist and become more strange and violent.
There are interactable objects outside of the paper stack and the computer. You can search through the computer, drink coffee, turn on a light, and open up the door to see if there are any spooky things outside, or if you need to go outside.
Last Report is a dark and atmospheric game. The game looks fuzzy so that it will trick your mind into thinking something isn’t staring at you from outside the window, and when you figure it out, it will be gone. The subtle changes in the way the game presents itself during a spooky moment are perfect.

There is barely any ambient sound. The rain is loud and the thunder is louder. You will get lost in doing paperwork, and it sounds like the walkie or a knock on the door will cut right through the silence. It got me a couple of times, honestly.
Keep an eye on this one because I think the mix of Dad Game and horror is just enough for me to play it. Couple that with $5 price tag and you will probably see a review here within the month. NO DOUBT.
