Quick Thoughts – A Measly 10 Hours in Silksong

Library school has me short on time so it’s time for another Quick Thoughts. I feel like I’ve been playing longer, but it’s clocked at around 10 hours.

LET ME TALK ABOUT SILKSONG FOR A MOMENT.

Pros:

  • I am for sure more invested in the overall narrative because Hornet actually converses with the other bugs.
    • rather than standing and staring at them all creepily.
  • I like Hornet’s new move set. I get to go really fast and jump really high. That’s all I want.
    • If I wanted first Hollow Knight movement, I would have just played the first game.
    • The idea of turning the dash into a sprint should get a raise.
    • The jump at the end of the sprint with another dash mid-air is GENIUS.
  • Exploration is really fun.
    • I looked at a full map of the game and I spent almost 10 hours exploring like 1/10th the map.
    • I really like the platforming “puzzles.” They really challenge my mastery of the movement system.
  • Combat is good (see cons).
    • Hornet’s attacks are sharp and has just enough weight to make me feel like I am fighting hard and fast.
    • Bosses are varied and are still the absolute highlight of the video game.
  • I like the locket system, just like in the first game.
  • The crest system is interesting.
    • I have 4 and I only ever really wanted to use was the base one.
      • Partly because I nailed the diagonal pogo, and I can’t imagine going back.
  • The side quests haven’t left a sour taste in my mouth yet.
    • They are basic but they put me back into areas that I barely explored, allowing me to reexamine them to see if I missed a door or opening to another biome.
  • I have never been truly angry with the difficulty of the game.
    • I die, usually by my own mistake/greed. Why would I be mad at the game?

Cons:

  • Those fucking flying enemies are the actual worst.
    • if they back up to bait the attack, then I automatically hate them.
  • The double damage thing is annoying, but I just got better.

Silksong is not perfect, but it is one hell of an enjoyable game so far. I only said two negative things about the game, and I feel like they are not even that bad. Everything is done so well that the little things add up, but never really hurt the game in a significant way.

All I know is that I am hanging out on my couch from 9:30pm to 11pm playing this game and I am really really liking it.

SO FAR IT’S A 9/10 FROM ME
