It is 11am EST and I have an hour to sum up all the things I like about the new skate game.
PROS:
- Multiplayer is the only thing I’ve ever wanted for this game.
- The open world is curated for skating. Everything can be skated on for God’s sake.
- For whatever reason, they introduced better climbing than any Assassin’s Creed game.
- Also the aerial movement is choice when jumping off a huge building.
- The controls are tight, and when the move is executed it looks great…In a vacuum.
- You can spam move sets, and it gets a little weird-looking.
- Customization options are great.
- Low key, the soundtrack has me completely invested in just hanging out doing kickflips into nose slides.
- The session marker is fantastical, for more than just trying to hit sick tricks of a huge set of stairs.
CONS:
- I don’t really care that there is a story attached to this game. I know they needed to put one in, but I do not care about it at all, and the cutscenes and stuff take up time that I could be skating.
- Loot boxes and constant push for paid shit is dumb.
- It doesn’t really hurt my view of the game, it just has to be said.
- Lots of bugs. From disconnecting to falling through the map. Session markers relieve this but still.
skate. is a friend-slop game that checks all the boxes for me so far. I like hanging out and not playing Tony Hawks Pro Skater, but playing a game that just values the slow pace of hitting a simple trick into another one. The option is there to do goofy, ridiculous shit, but I am not forced to partake.
It is all around a good time to play this game and even more fun when friends are involved.
So far, so good.
