Demo Days – Planet of Lana 2

I didn’t know the first game came out 3 years ago. I remember playing it when Gamepass was ACTUALLY worth it.

This week is Planet of Lana 2

Planet of Lana 2 is a puzzle platformer from Wishfully and Thunderful Publishing. The game was released for all modern consoles on March 5th and retails for $20.

It looks like the natural course of action is that the first game is about an alien invasion, and the second game is about what happens when humans refuse to work together for the betterment of the world. Planet of Lana was always a game that laid its story out environmentally, with murals on walls and scratchings on caves. This time around, Planet of Lana 2’s demo has you in the combat zone, showing the player that the world has become even more hostile than it was in the first game, SOMEHOW.

Lana and Mui are back with their signature gameplay mechanics. Lana needs to solve puzzles, and Mui is the perfect size to help with said puzzles. The demo has a slew of highlighted puzzles from the first 5 chapters, and they are as good as the first games from what I recall. I really enjoy the puzzles, though it takes me a moment, of constantly restarting, to back up and really take in everything.

Helping Mui navigate dangerous areas makes me super nervous, and the puzzles make me take a step back to ponder the area as a whole before making a decision. The platforming is still fun. Watching Lana sprint to just make a wide gap STILL has me feeling uneasy. Swimming underwater is effortless and looks fantastic. I really enjoy the movement in Planet of Lana, it’s got the right amount of realistic-looking animations to make the movement look great, while Lana having weight makes those scary leaps of faith really impactful.

Certain areas need to have some sort of explanation, as there were at least two sections of the demo where I was left clueless about what it was that I should be doing.

I started the first game because of how stunning it looked, and I am happy the art style has stayed the same. Wishfully has truly nailed the Sci-fi feel of this world. Lush green forests are as beautiful as they are dangerous, and when swimming is introduced, that little backdrop with the colossal moon (or secondary planet) in the back with that little shimmer of the outline *Chefs Kiss*, it’s perfect.

Planet of Lana 2, from the demo, looks like it has shaped up to be a proper sequel. The demo covers a lot of ground, both in th gameplay department and story-wise, which has me wanting to play more sooner than later. I implore you to check it out.
