I completed a run with The Silent, and I figured I would talk about the 9.5 hours that I put into Slay The Spire 2.
Quickly!
Positives:
- Still probably one of my favorite deckbuilders ever made.
- Easy to pick up and play
- Even easier to lose yourself in.
- Easy to pick up and play
- The new characters, I’ve only played with The Regent, are super dope so far.
- Having the additional cost of stars really makes focused playing incredibly satisfying.
- Updated looks and animations are welcome, for the first game was really starting to show its age.
- COLORS, LOTS OF COLORS.
- Updated enemies are what I felt like the game really needed. I feel like there weren’t too many enemies before, but now there are so many different types to come across when playing!
- Except for the pain in the ass one mini boss that has like 4 tentacles that attack and armor when hit.
- The section bosses are the stars of the show.
- Big fan of The Kin, The Waterfall Giant, Knowledge Demon, and The Test Subject
- The Crab can suck shit, honestly.
- Big fan of The Kin, The Waterfall Giant, Knowledge Demon, and The Test Subject
- The rate at which I am unlocking new cards and items is nice, though I never read them initially. It is nice to see them while I am actually playing the game.
- I don’t really remember the old items, but when I see one that I do recognize, and it has been updated, it is nice to see the updated version being more relevant.
- That being said, new items feel great and usually have some sort of impact on the game, regardless of who I am playing as.
- I like the Ancients, who introduce themselves at the beginning of each Act.
- The one that gives me a free card that costs 0, that draws a card and gives me energy brightens my world.
Negatives:
- The lore is nice, but I actually do not and will never care about lore in a deckbuilder. Just let me deckbuild.
- There are times when I have some semblance of a deck built, and then, for the rest of the run, I get absolutely no cards that complement that deck that I completed Act 1 with.
- It’s a shame, and it feels like the game wanted me to pivot, though there was no way to properly pivot.
I know that I have only scratched the surface of Slay the Spire 2, but I feel like I am having the same opinion of it as I did the first game. It is probably one of the best deckbuildlers I have ever played. Every character so far has a couple of unique mechanics to build and experiment with, all of the updates that I have noticed are all welcome and I cannot wait to play more. All of it is already worth the money that I paid for it. Will report back when I have more hours and have played more characters.
So Far 9/10
