I wanted a game that would satisfy my need for multiplayer. I do like playing multiplayer games, but the level of toxicity can sometimes leave a bad taste in my mouth, so I generally avoid them. I finally pulled the trigger on Helldivers 2, and I have played just about 30 hours of it
AND I WILL TALK ABOUT IT, QUICKLY
Positives:
- The overall tone is just so fun. FOR SUPER EARTH, but being entirely dispensable is humorous.
- The third-person perspective and gunplay work incredibly well.
- Weapons and Strategems that are supposed to hit hard ABSOLUTELY do hit hard.
- I’ve fallen into the trap of using the same weapons and strategems, but I found fun in using what looks like the underpicked.
- I don’t know where the shotguns are ranked, but I am having a BLAST shooting them.
- The same goes for the one-cone orbital strike; that shit can be readied every 70 seconds.
- I don’t know where the shotguns are ranked, but I am having a BLAST shooting them.
- All of the side activities feel so natural in the game world.
- I thought it would take me forever to roam around the map to do objectives, but it wasn’t.
- The difficulty is right on point. I usually play on 7, and if I feel like it is too easy, then I can just ramp it up.
- And if I want to hang out and shoot some bugs, then I can just lower it.
- There is no pressure.
- And if I want to hang out and shoot some bugs, then I can just lower it.
- The enemy types are all fun to shoot.
- I like the weakpoint system. It really gets you to play more conservatively, but it feels so much more efficient. It is a nice balance.
- The enemy types all have light, medium, heavy armored, and whatever the hell the Hive Lord is.
- The mixing and matching with other players to take down the hordes is interesting, as the more possibilities there are, the more naturally chaos ensues.
- Playing with friends and randoms is seamless and pure joy at times.
- Now, at least there is a ton of content that will keep me playing for what seems like forever.
- I am okay with that.
Negatives:
- Wish there was a way to explain guns/strategems in the game.
- I’ve tried so hard to not go to a Wiki or watch YouTube videos on weapons and such, but I hit a wall when I thought a term ment something else and the game did not tell me anything differently.
- Shitty Helldivers will ALWAYS ruin a game.
- I had a game where someone was upset and then proceeded to kill themselves over and over to deplete all of the reinforcements.
Helldivers 2 is exactly what I wanted from a multiplayer game. The ability for me to boot it up, play whatever mission I want (10, 15, 30, 40 mins) and then get out if I want to is great. The amount of content that is available, and seemingly free if I want to grind, has me excited to keep playing. The gameplay/gunplay is pure fun; I cannot say anything more glowing. I love how everything hits really hard and I have to always be on my toes when a patrol walks by and when things get really hairy.
Nothing less than a 9/10 from me
